THE COLLABORATION BETWEEN ELSEVIER AND KEMBARA MEDIK 2016

On 27th February 2016, Persatuan Mahasiswa/i Fakulti Perubatan (PERSIAP) Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) organized an outstanding event: Kembara Medik with its theme, “Healing Hands, Caring Hearts”.

I’m truly honoured to have been given the responsibility to make sure that the program went as planned.

What is Kembara Medik?
It is a traditional program being held each year for the 1st Year UKM Medical students, aiming to provide exposure to the Clinical phase, a platform for them to mingle with the Seniors as well as increase their interest in this field.

This year, our committee members were challenged by PERSIAP to turn this program into a high impact and large scale event that benefits not only the 1st Year but to all the Medical students here and the community.

Thanks to my supportive members, we managed to pull it through even though we faced with many obstacles along the way.

This year, Kembara Medik had three activities:
  • Activity with the 1st Year students, i.e., Motivational Talk by Prof. Madya Dr. Harlina Siraj entitled, "Medical School: A Fantastic Voyage", Physical Examination (PE) Practice and Mini Games.
  • Exhibition from organisations and NGOs. E.g., Alzheimer's Disease Foundation Malaysia (ADFM), Malaysia Parkinson Disease Association, National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) and Elsevier.
  • Blood Donation Drive.

Fortunately, Elsevier agreed to collaborate with us in order to make this event more meaningful and significant. We do appreciate their sponsorship with items as stated below:

  • 2 book prizes for the Mini Games.
  • 16 copies of books as the lucky draw prizes.
  • 300 pieces of lucky draw forms.
  • 200 set of Basic & Clinical Titles brochures.

We even get an exclusive talk from dear Mocha regarding Elsevier eLibrary and Student Consult which proved to be beneficial for us and helped a lot in our studies.
